Then I bought this book I'm glad I did

I watched Hopalong Cassidy on television as a child. Now, 60 years later I was compelled to get reacquainted with the character. I bought all the Hopalong movies and TV episodes. Then I bought this beautiful edition signed by Grace Bradley Boyd, thus making it really special. I'm glad I did. This is the inside view of the life of William Boyd and of Grace Bradley Boyd before their marriage, during their marriage, and her years alone after his passing. Here are two great actors, William Boyd with a vision for Hopalong Cassidy whose equally strong, determined, talented, and loving wife Grace, believed in him and helped him achieve his goal. However, I had my own selfish reason for reading this book. I was close to and happily married, for almost 40 years to my husband who passed on suddenly over a year ago.-- Sometimes one has to look backward before going ahead in life. Watching Hopalong Cassidy episodes (reliving a happy time in my life) was my first step. Then I bought this book. Knowing how Grace Bradley Boyd coped with such a loss, dealt with it, and survived as a widow for all those years was important to me! My family and friends have been great. But this book with Grace Boyds insight sure helped me get through some rough spots on my own!

Well Worth It, if you are a Hoppy Fan it's Great nothing Like it

I grew up with Hoppy, when I was a young boy, he used to come into our Restaurant near the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds. So I knew him and Grace. One day I was at the fair with my friends and we were waiting for Hoppy and Topper (his horse) to come into the main enterance of the fair. When he came close to us I yelled as loud as I could. I got his attention and to my surprise and that of my friends, who did not believe I knew him, he motioned over to me to come closer. When I did he put his hand down saying "grab tight young fellow" and pulled me up into the saddle behind him. It was fantastic and my friends never said another word. Since then I have been a fan and collector. I kept in Touch with Grace until her death, the day before her 100th birthday, and would visit her when ever I was in California. I had purchased the Limited Edition and took it with me on the last trip before she died , and she signed it again with a personal note. She passed about 6 months later. It is a great book, full of never before known facts of Bill. It remains one of my prize possessions .

Hopalong Cassidy Revisited!

This book put a lot of the pieces of Bill Boyd's life together. What a great read! There was so much to learn. Bill Boyd pretty much "became" Hopalong Cassidy similar to Clayton Moore "becoming" the Lone Ranger once they took on the roles of their famous characters.
I was impressed that Bill Boyd sold everything he had for the rights to Hopalong Cassidy. What an incredible chance-putting you're life on the line. Well, the rest is history. He built an empire, and in the process, became a role model for millions of us for generations to come.
Thankfully, his movies and TV shows are now available on DVD. They still stand up on top of all the other "cowboy"/western offerings.
How Grace and Bill finally came together is a wonderful fairy tale come true! Each of them really inspired the other. I was never able to meet either on earth, but love their story and still enjoy watching "Hoppy" with friends and family.
